The Rules of the
Equestrian Society

For ease of understanding and International compliance all SANEF and FEI rules will apply, however, The Society has created 3 Primary Rules which will be imposed on all equestrian activities.

1)     The Horse:-

Definition = The Most important Animal as with out him there is NO Equestrian Sport.

2)     Horsemanship:-

Definition = Horsemanship will always produce horse/pony that exhibits a calm and relaxed demeanour both in hand and undersaddle. The horse/pony will be willing to respond to the riders requests giving no evidence of concern such as being hollow or jumpy.

Horsemanship encourages the horse/pony to do its job - it does not force it therefore the horse/pony will work on a soft contact yielding happily to seat and legs aids without the need for a harsh contact and bitting up or the use of gadgets

Horsemanship rewards for a job well done and understands that without the horse/pony horsemanship would not be possible therefore horsemanship always puts the horse/pony before the human ego.

Horsemanship knows that the horse is comfortable throughout its body and would not ride a horse that showed any form of discomfort.

Horsemanship knows that the tack in use fits correctly and is causing no discomfort.

3)     Sportsmanship:-

Definition = Sportsmanship is to do unto others in the competition environment as you would have done unto you. Sportsmanship does not trophy hunt. Sportsmanship competes at a level that suits both mount and rider.

Further to the implementation of these three rules an attempt will be made to make the SANEF and FEI rules which are, of necessity, long winded more user friendly. We are currently working on the simplification of the rules which when finished will be posted here.

The Society lays great importance on the three basic rules of the horse, horsemanship and sportsmanship and all judges and officials presiding at any affiliated event will be briefed on The Societies Merit and Demerit system (currently being formulated). The cooperation of all members in reporting any behaviour that is not in the spirit of these three rules will always be appreciated and dealt with using diplomacy to avoid untoward unpleasantness both at the time and in the future.

Should any member or person connected with a horse or rider not wish to adhere to those three rules then their membership will be terminated.

We will be using the Merit system in the ranking and grading of riders for competitions and end of the year awards.

Please note that there will be more info about the rules and how it all works as The Society grows so please keep checking back to this page to be sure you are up to date.
