About ************************************** The intention of the new society is not to reinvent the wheel but to address some of the issues and concerns that have been voiced by riders and competitors, both local and international. The society is not a ‘holier than thou’ institution but encourages input and participation from its members and allows voting on many topics regularly. The long term goals are many and varied and include some exciting developments but the underlying intention is to promote good horsemanship from the very beginning and to have a system in place that will be able to assist talented young riders to progress in their riding careers. The rules are basic and to the point with the welfare of the horse paramount. Too often, in the quest for trophies and accolades, the importance of the horse is forgotten and it is for this reason that the society is currently fine tuning a merit and demerit system, which is being designed to encourage less emphasis on winning and place more emphasis on the way the performance is achieved.
